TRES PALABRAS
Un jornalero pobre llegó por la noche a una posada. Estaba muy cansado y tenía hambre y sed. Pero no tenía dinero. Sin dinero no pudo obtener nada. ¿Cómo obtener dinero para comer?
Se sentó a una mesa. A la mesa estaban sentados dos panaderos que comían y bebían. El jornalero les contaba de sus viajes. Su cuento era muy interesante y ellos lo escuchaban atentamente. Finalmente él les dijo:
—- Propongo una apuesta. Diré tres palabras que Vds. no pueden repetir.
—Es absurdo,—contestaron los panaderos.—Vd. no puede hacerlo.
—¿Cuánto apuestan Vds.?—dijo el jornalero.
—Un duro,—contestaron los panaderos.
El jornalero empezó:—Popocatepetl.—Los panaderos repitieron:—Popocatepetl.—El jornalero dijo:—mercader.—Los panaderos dijeron:—mercader.—Entonces dijo el jornalero con una sonrisa:—error.
Los panaderos meditaron mucho, pero no pudieron hallar su error. El jornalero dijo:
—Ensayemos de nuevo.
—Sí, cierto,—dijeron los panaderos.
El jornalero empezó otra vez y dijo:—hipopótamo.—Los panaderos:—hipopótamo.—El jornalero:—jirafa.—Los panaderos:—jirafa.
—Otra vez el jornalero dijo con una sonrisa:—error.
Intentáronlo tres o cuatro veces. Después de la cuarta vez los panaderos pagaron el duro, pero preguntaron:
—¿Cuál ha sido nuestro error?
El jornalero dijo:—Nunca han pronunciado Vds. la tercera palabra. La tercera palabra fué cada vez: error. Por eso Vds. han perdido la apuesta.
Three words
A poor traveller arrives at an inn for the night. He is very tired and he is hungry and sad. But he has no money. Without money we cannot get anything. How will he get money come for food?
He sits on a table. In the table are sitting two bakers who are eating and drinking. The traveller tells them of his travelds. The story is very interesting and they listen attentively. Atlast he says:
I propose a bet. I wil say three words and you can't repeat them.
It is absurd, said the bakers - you cannot do it.
How much do you bet then?
Its hard - said the bakers.
The traveller started: - Popocatepetl. - The bakers repeat - Popocatepetl. - The traveller said: merchant - The bakers repeat : merchant. Then the traveller said with a smile - error.
The bakers think for long but they could not find their error. The traveller said:
Let's try again
The traveller starts this time and said: hipopotamus - The bakers : hippopotamus. The traveller: giraffe - The bakers - giraffe.
This time the traveller said with a smile - error.
They do it the third and fourth time. After the fourth time the bakers says it is hard, and question him,
What is our error?
The traveller said - You never repeated the third word. The third word was always : error. So you have lost the bet.
